Our Hope

Our Hope
Our Hope

“You were once alienated from God and enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior, but now He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation. You need only to continue in your faith, established and firm, and not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, have become a servant” (Colossians 1:21-23*).

Learning something new or trying to navigate an unfamiliar situation can be overwhelming. Where do we start? How can we know we’re doing the right thing or heading in the right direction? Without guidance, it’s easy to get lost and feel discouraged.

In today’s scripture, Apostle Paul describes the hope of the gospel of which he has become a servant (verse 23). This hope was previously “hidden from ages and generations but is now revealed to His saints” (verse 26*). These verses teach us that there is a way forward for us. We are no longer lost, wandering in darkness. Christ came for us and became like us so that we, in turn, might become like Him.

As children of the heavenly Father, we are ushered into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:3). Thanks to our Savior, we are accepted instead of condemned and designated for eternal life with God in heaven instead of spiritual death. We possess His Spirit within us to comfort and guide us during difficult times, as well as the wisdom of God’s word which provides us direction.

As Christians, we have eternal security because of our loving Savior, in whom we are presented “perfect” (Colossians 1:28*). Jesus Christ is our companion, friend, and our unchanging source of hope.
