"I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances— I know how to live in want, and I know how to live in abundance. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength" (Philippians 4:11–13*).

When I found out that I had torn the meniscus in my other knee, my heart sank. I had just recovered from the same injury on the other knee eight months ago, and now I had to go through the same grueling process again. Surgery, crutches, ice, and physical therapy would be my main focus for the next two weeks. It seemed to me that I would never understand where God is in all of this and how He could use this injury for my good.

Around this time, I came across Philippians chapter 4. This biblical passage was familiar to me, but I had never spent so much time studying and reflecting on it. After reading it, even though I didn't understand why I was going through this trial, I decided that the only way to overcome it was to turn to God. I chose faith and to trust in the Lord. Now I have joy and peace that were missing during my previous knee injury. Surrendering my struggle to God is something I have to do every day, and it reminds me that I am not alone in this trial.
