"And God said, 'Let there be lights on the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be signs for seasons, for days, and for years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth'" (Gen. 1:14–15*).
When I think of signs that serve our safety and guidance, traffic lights, lighthouses, and billboards are the first to come to my mind. We often forget how much more valuable we are as signs that have the potential to bring others the hope, joy, and direction that God provides. In a world where there is so much despair and hopelessness, it is important for all of us to cling to the living practical signs and signals of hope.
Although God is invisible, He has shown us through Jesus Christ how to make Him visible to others. We are called to be signs of God's love, drawing people from darkness into the light of life. Sharing a kind word or doing a good deed could serve as a gateway to God's kingdom for those who have lost hope. By doing this, the world becomes a little brighter.
