"But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life" (John 4:14*).

Before I knew God, I thought I could fill the void within me through various achievements. I was sure that everything would be solved by getting good grades in school, having wonderful friends, traveling, having a boyfriend, and finding a suitable job. It was painful for me to discover that each of these hopes failed to fill the void I felt.

Eventually, I realized that it’s irrational and cruel to expect people to do something only God can. Accepting your limitations is liberating and allows God’s love to fill those voids. God’s love extends beyond our limited capabilities and lifts us above them.

I am grateful that His love filled the emptiness I experienced. Now my joy and fulfillment are in the present, not expected in the future, and I am not dependent on my achievements, circumstances, or loved ones. I can no longer imagine my life without God. As my faith grows, I begin to recognize God’s presence in my life. He is always faithful, even when I am not. Christ offers the water that will quench our thirst. And once we come to Him with a humble heart, He will welcome us with joy.
