Deep, sincere relationships require time and effort. However, as human beings, we all have physical, mental, and emotional limitations that we cannot ignore. Even Lord Jesus, who is almighty, took time to isolate Himself from the crowds and His disciples to draw strength from communing with the Father: "But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed" (Luke 5:16*).
When we cannot invest in our relationships as much as we had hoped, it might be our turn to receive. Moses is a good example of this. While he held God’s staff high, Israel prevailed over Amalek, but when his hands grew tired and he lowered them, the Amalekites began to advance. So, "they took a stone, put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur supported his hands—one on one side, and one on the other—so his hands remained steady till sunset. Thus, Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword" (Exodus 17:12-13*).
The story of Moses reminds us that sometimes the best thing we can do is allow our family and friends to help us. After all, the Lord has designed us to rely on one another.
