"I know every bird of the mountains, and all that moves in the field is mine" (Ps. 50:11*).
When I suddenly lost my job, I had no source of income, nor any prospects before me. I watched my savings dwindle and my dreams evaporate. I sank into overwhelming debt. I lay awake at night with bills swirling in my mind.
One morning, I glanced through the window where a small bird was singing its cheerful song, and then it went on its way in the wind and rain. I marveled at this delicate creature that sang and found its way, regardless of the harsh weather. "Let me be like this little bird, Lord," I whispered, "praising You amidst difficulties."
Soon my mind was filled with all my blessings. I bowed my head and thanked God for everything I had. I realized that worrying would not improve my situation in any way. Like the bird, I needed to keep going, do what I could, and praise God for His care and action in my life.
Inspired by the bird, I continued to focus on praising God instead of letting worry hinder me. I didn't want to waste my life worrying about my financial situation when I could live for the Lord. I took steps to change my mindset. I spoke with my pastor about volunteer work at my church. Over time, financial help slowly started to appear, but those days earned me riches in the form of new friends, new skills, and a stronger faith in God.
