"The law of the Lord is perfect and preserves the soul. The ordinances of the Lord make the uneducated wise. The precepts of the Lord are just and gladden the heart; the commandment of the Lord is clear – it enlightens the eyes. The fear of the Lord purifies, endures forever. The ordinances of the Lord are true – all are just” (Ps. 19, verses 8 – 10).
The world we live in is very noisy – sometimes even deafening. But the peace given by God's word diminishes the noise, offering us the tranquility of truth and beauty amidst the clamor. Psalm 19, verses 8 – 10 serves as a reminder that Scripture provides us with wisdom and understanding, as it:
- preserves the soul. God's word possesses everything our wounded and tired soul needs. When life's struggles exhaust us, it brings us restoration through its comfort, hope, and renewal.
- makes the uneducated wise. The insight and guidance contained in the Bible surpass worldly knowledge. God's wisdom is not intended only for the educated or elite, but is accessible to anyone willing to accept it.
- gladdens the heart. God's statutes are righteous and remind us of our identity and purpose in Christ. This brings constant joy in a world filled with temporary pleasures.
- enlightens the eyes. The command from God is pure and teaches us spiritual truths. When we seek God's guidance in His word, we receive clarity and perspective, helping us navigate through chaos and darkness.
Indeed, God's word is a precious and beautiful gift – it is a source of strength and a light on our path.
