"I know, Lord, that a man's path does not depend on him and a man, when he walks, does not guide his steps" (Jeremiah 10:23*).
Let's consider a few reasons why it is likely that God might block our way. Closed doors...
- protect us from mistakes. Just because a path ahead seems clear doesn't mean God wants us to follow it. Sometimes we lack the necessary information to make a wise decision, so He puts a spiritual or physical barrier. The Holy Spirit can see the entire roadmap of our lives, and thus we should follow His guidance.
- redirect our steps. Sometimes the Lord provides us with an opportunity—one that will bear more fruit, bring more contentment, and have a greater impact on the kingdom.
- test our faith and build resilience. Waiting for God to act or speak to us is difficult. But we will learn wisdom, patience, and trust as we wait in prayer for Him to reveal His will.
- give us time. God might temporarily restrict access to a ministry until the believer is prepared for the work.
Despite our focus here on "closed doors," the true message is that God opens doors. He has prepared the perfect path for us to follow. Stay on it, and you will cross thresholds that lead to service, satisfaction, and glorification of God.
