God deserves our respect

God deserves our respect
God deserves our respect

“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption. And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out, ‘Abba, Father!’ So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ” (Galatians, ch. 4, v. 4 – 7*).

“My dad is stronger than yours!” “My mom makes the best food in the world!” Have you noticed how little children instinctively trust their parents and often speak about them with pride? For an innocent child, no one is smarter, more beautiful, or more fun than their parents.

However, at some point, things begin to change. As children grow and observe the world around them, the unwavering admiration they have starts to waver—especially during the teenage years. During this time, perceptions of parents can alter, sparking indifference and ingratitude. What happens? Teenagers want to feel independent; they come to realize that mom and dad are in fact human beings prone to mistakes, and they begin to question their views.

Take time to reflect inwardly. The Lord Jesus says that we must become like children (Matthew, ch. 18, v. 3). Do you honor and admire your heavenly Father? Do you speak to others about Him with the same reverence and joy as when you first believed? If any part of this attitude has faded, ask Him to help you rediscover it. Then spend time with His word to find His personal encouragement to you.
