"Does a person want to live and love longevity to enjoy good things? Let him keep his tongue from evil and his mouth from deceitful words; let him turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it" (Psalm 34, verses 13 – 15*).
How do we achieve a good life? Well, it depends on what we strive for and what we consider "good". The world defines good things as objects and experiences that make us happy. From God's perspective, however, the good things in life are those that align with His purposes and plans for us.
God's will may include material prosperity, health, and opportunities, but He also values moments of difficulty, needs, and suffering. For the Lord, our spiritual well-being takes precedence over physical or material comfort and tranquility.
Our God wants us to seek Him, instead of the treasures and pleasures of this life. If we do, He promises that we will have everything we need (Psalm 34, verse 10). The Bible tells us to pray for God to meet our needs, but we should also approach Him with an open heart that seeks to know and love Him more.
The Lord Himself is the greatest good we could strive for. Everything He gives, whether much or little, is a "good gift" and a "perfect gift" (James 1, verse 17*). When He is our pursuit, and not the things of this world, we will be content with what we have.
