"A woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to His word. But Martha was distracted by much serving, and she approached Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me." But Jesus answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

Which of the two sisters describes you better? Do you find yourself easily distracted and anxious, or are you eager to learn from God?

When Christ visited their home, Martha prioritized serving over listening to Him. Although both sisters expressed their love and care for Lord Jesus through their actions, Mary chose the better way.

Sometimes in our busy daily lives, we lose sight of the importance of refreshing our spirit through God's presence. While the Lord does not want us to abandon our responsibilities, we need daily time for prayer, reading, and meditating on Scripture.

Our relationship with the Lord should take precedence in our lives. Our minds and spirits need daily renewal through God’s word, so that our thoughts, behaviors, feelings, and actions stem from applying spiritual truths. However, as we have all probably realized, this is not easy, because our selfish nature tries to take over and the world with its pursuits, pleasures, and temptations encourages us to indulge ourselves.

Nothing should displace our relationship with Christ. Like Mary, take time to listen and learn from Lord Jesus through His word.
