The word "enjoy" means "to derive great pleasure, satisfaction, and happiness" from something. Isn't this the kind of relationship we want to have with God – one in which both parties delight in each other's presence? The Lord also desires to communicate with us in this way, and our participation in developing such communication is through dedication, trust, and patience.
First, the believer must commit their way to God. This means inviting Him to examine our desires and plans and to change anything that does not align with His purposes and plans for our lives: "Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will do it" (Ps. 37:5).
Second, the believer must trust in God. Who is more worthy of our trust than the Father, who gave Jesus Christ for the salvation of undeserving sinners? He, who did not spare His own Son, will surely provide what His children need: "He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?" (Rom. 8:32).
Third, the believer must rest in God. When we fear, we neither commit ourselves to God nor trust Him. Waiting on the Lord is rarely easy, but only He knows when circumstances and the right time align with His will: "Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken" (Ps. 62:6-7).
The joy of our relationship with God requires effort, but it is the effort of love because we were created to delight in God's presence. The greatest delight we can experience is to walk hand in hand with our Heavenly Father.
