“Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7*).
One evening, my ten-year-old son and I were returning from another city and stopped to get him something to eat. The restaurant was full of people, but we waited patiently until I ordered him a portion of rice with chicken. Since it was getting late, we headed to the car with the idea that he would have dinner on the way.
Suddenly, a little girl ran up to us, reaching out, asking for some money. Without hesitation, my son handed her the food package.
At that moment, I remembered another generous boy who gave his five small loaves and two fish to the Lord Jesus when five thousand hungry souls needed to be fed. The boy did not keep the food for himself, even though he was likely tired and hungry too. Christ thanked God for the bread and fish, and they turned out to be more than sufficient. There was even some left over!
My son did not solve all the problems of children living on the streets of India — not even those of that particular child. He simply did what he could. But if all of us show even a little generosity, the Lord will take the little we can offer and multiply it.
