Man Used by God

Man Used by God
Man Used by God

"Then Peter stood up with the eleven, raised his voice, and began to speak to them" (Acts, ch. 2, v. 14 – 36*).

After Christ calls him, Apostle Peter immediately leaves his fishing career to lead a life of discipleship and service. The apostle is far from perfect, but we can learn much from his transformation.

When Lord Jesus asks His disciples who they think He is, Apostle Peter answers, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!" (Matt., ch. 16, v. 16*). Similarly, our words and actions should declare to those around us that we believe in Christ as the Messiah and that we belong to Him. Our identity, whether among people or alone, should be based on being His disciples.

After the arrest of Lord Jesus, the faith of Apostle Peter wavers. Just as the Lord predicts, the apostle denies knowing Him three times, after which he weeps bitterly (Matt., ch. 26, v. 69 – 75). Following the resurrection, Christ, who has forgiven the apostle, calls him to care for His "flock" (John, ch. 21, v. 15 – 17). Being filled with the Holy Spirit, Apostle Peter begins his ministry by sharing the gospel with thousands of people (see Acts, ch. 2, v. 6 – 11, 41). Through God's power, many people are saved.

Apostle Peter is an example of a person God can use—someone who has his strengths and weaknesses, learns from his mistakes, and accepts God's purposes for himself.

Have you dedicated yourself to following God's plan for your life?
