"And God has placed in the Church each one in their designated place: first apostles, then prophets, third teachers, then those who have the powers to perform miracles and gifts for healing, then advocates for others, leaders, and those who speak different languages" (1 Cor. 12:28*).
At home, we have a shelf where we store various types of tools. Some are new, while others are old. Some require electrical power, while simpler hand tools need only human strength. Together, these tools allow us to undertake numerous projects—from small creative activities to home improvements.
These tools remind me of how the Lord has created us as individual persons, while simultaneously, we are all made in the image of God. He has blessed each of us with special talents, abilities, and strengths to build God's kingdom on earth. We are better equipped to serve God and others when we pray, study Scripture, reflect upon it, and praise God together with others in our community of believers.
Just as each tool on our shelf is created with a specific purpose, we believers can work together in our churches and communities to build strong relationships. We can support each other by showing the love God has revealed to us through the life of the Lord Jesus Christ. And no matter where we are, God shapes us and leads us to a life of service and love.
